Paws for Kids is a brilliant charity, who started up because they recognised that women in abusive/violent relationships often stay because of their pets.  It's not possible to have pets in refuges, and women don't want to leave them with the abuser, where they are often targets of abuse themselves.  They still carry out this vital work, using volunteer pet foster carers.  However they also have the Safe Haven Project, which helps children who have been witnesses of domestic violence.  This charity is very close to my heart, and although I don't think my dad was aware of them, I'm sure he would approve, as he was an animal lover.
