Story
To experience a bereavement or to come to terms with a life-limiting illness is never easy. Families going through this under Lockdown have truly been through the worst of it and we have worked tirelessly as an organisation to ensure our high standards of care have been honoured.
The tenderness and expertise Hospiscare provides such individuals and their families is truly incredible and I'm humbled and privileged to be part of something so worthwhile - it helps to give my life meaning.
Celebrating a milestone birthday in Lockdown is pretty shitty and so I wanted to create a focus that would enable me to support this wonderful charity which I feel very passionately about. I can't party with friends but I can still climb mountains it would seem!
To raise money I will trekking through Himalayan mountains, shaving my hair off (once the warmer weather returns...likely to be May!), hosting a series of online events such as workshops, raffles and entertainment evenings as well as taking this opportunity with a full and grateful heart to ask: if you would buy me a drink on my 40th birthday PLEASE could you put that money into this for me!? There is quite a bit to raise and every penny will count!
All online workshops will be centred on Mental Health and Wellbeing, so that I can hopefully help you as you help me :-)
This is definitely going to challenge me on many levels but for every patient I have worked with, for every family member I have sat with, for every carer I have treated, for my central team and for every staff member and volunteer that keeps Hospiscare going - this is for you! Especially for those those precious lives that have been taken too soon or those incredible people who have shown me what it truly means be brave, who will never get the chance to see the views I am yet to see. This is for them.
Archie and Robyn - I hope to make you proud.
I hope you will join me on my journey. THANK YOU!
