Story
I’m Sarah .. In 2002 I was given the life changing diagnosis that I had Multiple Sclerosis… and the news that there was/is no known cure! Since that time, I have always tried to come to terms with my health issues & the impact it has on mine & my family’s life.
In the last 10 years both my strength & mobility have decreased significantly, but I focus on my possibilities rather than my disabilities, and I’m very lucky to have the support of a loving family & great friends to help me with my ideas, aspirations & activities.
As part of my “60th Birthday bucket list” I set myself the challenge of completing the Great North Run …in my wheelchair… in fancy dress, with a group of willing like minded pals to push me … so “TEAM CRUELLA & her DALMATIANS” was formed. Then Covid & a joyous family wedding delayed our plans for a couple of years, so this is going to be 3rd time lucky!!
Our chosen charity is Multiple Sclerosis Research & Relief Fund. A local North East charity who give financial help & support countrywide to people suffering with this disease & their courageous & loving carers. At present the charity is fund raising to purchase an antigravity treadmill called AlterG which basically reduces the users body weight by 80% to allow for easier movement of the legs when exercising. Therefore giving massive health benefits for people with mobility issues. Can’t wait to use it! I myself really enjoy & benefit from the exercise classes at Benmar House in Morpeth, along with the therapies that they provide. It is a truly excellent, local facility to have & the staff are always friendly & supportive & I have made good friends with other service users, which helps enormously with my mental well-being too. .
Before I finish I’d like to say a HUGE thank you to my wonderful dalmatians .. Keith, Sandra, Nuala, Fiona, Stephen & Anna for agreeing to help me. You are truly amazing
