Ride for Precious Lives is our unique annual sponsored 205 mile, three day cycle challenge to raise money for short and precious lives.

Story

I will be completing the ride for precious lives with my team mates, Katie Sweet and Dominic Anderton. We will join over 100 other determined people to cycle 225 miles over 3 days from Bristol to St Austell in July 2022.

I have seen this challenge pop up a few times and have always fancied giving it a go but have always been too scared. If I'm honest, I'm still terrified! The furthest I've ever cycled was 37 miles! Training will be incredibly hard. Single parenting two children whilst working and looking after too many pets is already like some form of circus at times! Like any good juggler though, what's one more ball to throw in the air?

I had a tour of Little Harbour children's hospice in St Austell one December when my children took part in Santa's on the run. It was cold and dark outside, but the hospice was bright and radiated the love and care the families receive. I was so emotional looking around. Seeing the sibling room, the family areas, the sensory rooms etc etc. Honestly, it's incredible. It hit me over and over again that we honestly have no idea what hand we will be dealt at any time. I knew then that one day I would dig deep and take on the ride for precious lives and attempt to raise some money to help the hospice and their families.

So, here I am now! The bike is strapped to the turbo in the living room, I'm sweating my way through gym classes having never been before in my life! I am determined to get fit and complete the challenge!

Thank you so much for any donations. You WILL be making a difference to children and their families.

Thank you for supporting Children's Hospice South West. This is an unprecedented time for everyone. For the wonderful children and families that we support, there are a great many additional challenges because of fear, lockdown and isolation to name but a few.
