Story

Here we go again!

After a year of postponements (we all know why) our intrepid band of willing volunteers, actually our nearest and dearest family and friends, will once again do battle against the roads of the UK in Stanley’s honour. However this time we’ve upped the ante and we’re throwing a cheeky little climb at them post the cycle ride.

Here’s the plan;

Starting from Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridgeshire (where Stanley spent 6 months with all the wide ranging, often brutal, treatments he received during his battle with the cancer that is Neuroblastoma), we will cycle over 220 miles, crossing the border into Wales, ending our ride in Brecon. From there the challenge will be to climb Pen y Fan, the highest peak in Southern Britain, and the infamous home of the Fan Dance, the notorious fitness test of the SAS selection process.

So, we get our wheels rolling on Friday 1st October, aiming to reach the top of Pen y Fan on the morning on Monday 4th October.

We’d be extremely grateful, as always, for your love and support, just as you did during Stanley’s short life.

If you can donate, please do so, via this link. You’re helping your friends and family along those roads, and up that massive hill. Here’s to:

Paul Appleton, Ian Bond, Paul Bond, Luke Elam, Brian Farrar, Nick Gilmour, Jim Lunn, Chris Nicholson, Kate Rivers, Graham Sinclair, James Stride, Neil Sullivan, Paul Taylor, Chris Watts, Craig Wilson & Simon Worfolk

We do this to raise both awareness and money. No child, nor family, when they hear this hideous diagnosis, just as we did, deserves to then endure a treatment plan so lengthy and so brutal, to only be told there is no more hope. The monies we have raised to date, some £37k, managed by Solving Kids Cancer on behalf of The Smiles for Stanley Fund, are put towards research, to support brilliant minds in improving treatment regimes and ultimately searching for a cure.

Neuroblastoma is cruel, the treatments shouldn’t have to be, we aim, with your considerable help, to improve this situation. Other children like Stanley, other families like us, deserve better outcomes.

We had so many precious times with Stanley George Apple, we cherish every memory, and hold him dear within our hearts every minute. He is our hero, a loving Son, and an inspirational big Brother.

Thank you all for your kind support and donations

Love, Sarah, Paul, Freddie and baby girl bump xxx
