Story
Being smart and clever was everything to our Dad. He knew he
had been blessed with a miraculous organ that made him a gifted problem solver and acute businessman. When we try to make sense of why this happened to Dad we conclude that maybe he thought so hard and so much that his brain just got all used up!
In his mid 80’s it wasn’t his supremely fit, physically healthy
body that failed him, but his amazing brain that just simply ‘dissolved’ before our very eyes. There was nothing we could do for Dad but help him remember our names (he was better with childhood nicknames he’d given us like Bear and Wombat).
We lost our Dad in Dec 2019, but we argue we ‘lost’ him at least 10 years before that. We know he would want us to help fight this terrible disease and our fight begins with supporting the great work that the Queensland Brain Institute is doing to understand Alzheimer’s and Dementia and to find a treatment for people who suffer from it.
