Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the Newport Marathon on Sunday May 5th 2019, and in order to get there this is also going to involve the Cardiff Half on October 7th 2018 and the Weston Half on March 24th 2019 (with a heck of a lot of miles in between!)
For those of you that don't know why I'm running for Crohns and Colitis Uk, it is to raise money towards a cure for a life changing, daily debilitating and undignified disease. It is what my husband Dan fights on a daily basis.
So much is unknown about Inflammatory bowel disease and so much remains taboo. It's not cool, it's humiliating, overwhelming and life long.
Since his diagnosis Dan has had 9 surgeries, trialled nearly every treatment on the UK market and is currently maintained on weekly injections. He has been in remission just once for around 6 months during his entire adult life. We live with a timebomb hanging over us, never knowing where or when it will strike or what we will have to give up.
I began running in 2010 in a bid to combat morbid obesity and crippling depression. Still, we survived, and it is running that helps me continue to survive.
Running does not come naturally to me and takes a discipline and dedication which I generally lack. But I want to run a marathon, before I am 40, to show that Dan is not the only fighter in our family and to show him that I will not give up either.
We signed up to fight IBD together and taking inspiration from Dan's courage, dedication and, at times, downright stubbornness, I will run this race for him!
It's a marathon journey (literally) with two halves, and I am certain, a whole heck of a lot of miles in between.
For the runners amongst you I may well require a swift kick up the bum to get over my moaning and doubt. For the non-runners amongst you, I will also require a swift kick up the bum to remember why this is important!
Thank you all x
