Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My Grandparents, Alan and Barbara Mitchell (my Barbar & Poppa) dedicated over 25 years of their lives fundraising for Cancer Research UK, this event is not only dedicated to their memory, but to follow in their footsteps fundraising for this amazing charity. I aim to run 56 miles (90km) throughout the month of February, equating to 2 miles per day. This will be a massive challenge for me having only given birth 9 weeks ago but I am determined to complete this and pay tribute to two amazing people.
Their story....
In 1981 Poppa was diagnosed with bowel cancer, following surgery he went into remission. In 2012 we received the devastating news that Barbar had been diagnosed with bowel cancer and she devastatingly lost her battle on 8th September 2012.
Poppa remained healthy and in remission up until 2018 when his bowel cancer returned. After several surgeries, and a stay in intensive care he shocked us all by coming back from the brink stronger than ever, at the ripe old age of 85. He had not been expected to survive. It wasn't until 2019 that we learned that the cancer had spread to his liver, and that he was terminally ill. Despite undergoing gruelling chemotherapy, and being so poorly, Poppa never complained, he showed such strength and positivity throughout his illness. We sadly lost our dear Poppa on 17th December 2020, a grief which is still so raw to our family.
My Poppa was nothing short of a warrior. The most courageous man who fought with such strength and dignity and all in the face of Covid-19. My Grandparents were nothing short of amazing, such inspirational people, with good morals, good hearts who taught me so many precious life lessons. I couldn't be more proud to be their Granddaughter and I hope I can do them proud like they did me and continue to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Research UK.
Any pennies that you have spare to help support this amazing cause would be greatly appreciated - thank you.
In loving memory of Alan & Barbara Mitchell.
