Story
Having previously been an ICU nurse, I understand the devastating consequences Encephalitis has for people affected and their families, which is why I have chosen to take on the challenge of running the York Marathon for The Encephalitis Society.
Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain, and can be triggered by infections such as the cold sore virus or even the common cold. In some cases a person's own immune system can be responsible. There are tens of thousands of cases diagnosed across the globe each year.
The Encephalitis Society works tirelessly to support those affected in order to ensure that no one has to face Encephalitis alone. They don't get nearly enough recognition for the work that they do and so I want to use the marathon as a way of not only raising vital funds for them but also to raise some much needed awareness.
