Story
Hello 😊
On the 25th
June I am pledging to run 10k in the honour of my amazing Aunty Lucy.
Lucy has been in the care sector for nearly 40 years and has
been a dedicated Nurse for the past 25 years, spending the last 7 years
specialising in leg ulcers. She is the loveliest, kind hearted, (crazy like me)
and infectious person.
Lucy had
been experiencing extreme anal pain, back pain and leg pain for the past 4
years. In December the pain became unimaginable, and we ended up in A+E for 18
hours where further tests were done.
Just before
Christmas 2022 she was told a tumour had been found and that she had anal
cancer. This was a total shock. We were
told to prepare for the worst and spent Christmas time and most of January
living in fear of the prognosis. Lucy was in extreme pain 24/7 for many months
and became unwell very quickly. Myself and other family members decided to
start round the clock care for her at home just before she got her diagnosis
and have been doing alternate shifts around our work commitments so that she is
never on her own.
She had to
have an operation to have a permanent colostomy/stoma bag of which was very
traumatic and mentally challenging for her to get use to. During this time the
doctors were unable to get the cancer pain under control no matter what they
tried. It was constant torture like nothing I’ve ever witnessed before.
In February
Lucy started 6 weeks of daily chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Because of the
tumour she was unable to sit down at all so either had to stand or lay on her
side constantly. An ambulance crew picked her up every day to take her to and
from mount Vernon Cancer Hospital. After about 3 weeks into treatment Lucy
became very poorly at home and I had to take her to A+E where we were told she
had become to poorly and treatment had to be put on hold. Fortunately, after a
couple of weeks she was able to re start.
The battle
is ongoing and one hell of a rollercoaster. I truly admire her bravery in
continuing this horrible battle.
So, I pledge
to raise as much money as I can in her honour for Mount Vernon Cancer Hospital.
If you are able and would like to donate to aid the fight against cancer please
do, but please do not feel any pressure.
Donations or no donations I know we are all wanting to fight back
against this cruel disease.
I was also
lucky enough to have my life saved in November last year, after becoming poorly
with sepsis and a PE. I would like to give my thanks to Lister Hospital also by
running for them.
Many Thanks for taking the time to read
