Story
We all have a life story, some of us similar life stories , the difference being is that the final chapters in our stories differentiate us. On the 21st October 16 I became another statistic, I had a juvenile stroke aged 43 .
Stroke kills twice as many women as breast cancer and more men than prostrate and testicular cancer combined a year. Such a high statistic and I like you will be, not aware? We have all heard the stroke adverts on the radio and seen the TV adverts but do we take actually digest that we could become one of the 152,000 strokes per year not necessarily always caused by a choice in lifestyle, mine was a simple skipped heartbeat.
Even more frightening is that 1 in 4 strokes are fatal.
Being the person I am I wanted answers and answer's fast. Losing my sight in my left eye, unable to walk unaided, and I had lost my short term memory. I had become someone I didn't know, my confidence had hit rock bottom - why me?
If it wasn't for the research that goes into finding the why's and if's the 1 in 5 women and the 1 in 6 men who are expected to have a stroke before the age of 75 would be a lot higher.
I consider my final chapter in my story as very lucky having made complete recovery I am now in a position to turn my experience into a positive by fundraising for stroke research. We all will be affected by a stroke in our lives whether it being ourselves, family, friends or colleagues.
By donating £1.00 will make a difference to someone's story.
Thank - you
Sara.
