Story

Hello friends, family, colleagues and other supporters.

I hope you are here because you are considering supporting my fundraising for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham's Critical Care Unit.

I am currently training for the Blackpool Hilton Half Marathon on September 4th 2011.

I haven't run a half marathon before. I haven't run a road race longer than 5k, actually. I have taken on this challenge because I can, and I am grateful for that ability, and I am mindful of those who don't have it. I am also aware of the desperate need to support hard working charities like QEHB. This race won't change lives, but they do.

I am running to celebrate the life of Mary Pritchard, who lost a short and fierce battle with liver cancer in April 2010. Mary is missed and loved by an extended family who showed extraordinary courage during her final days. They were helped immeasurably by the standard of care and attention afforded to Mary, and they remain endlessly grateful to QEHB's CC Unit for this. Not only did Mary receive the very best in health care, but those around her were looked after, with cups of tea, comforting but honest words, and a sense of great respect for the loss they were experiencing.

Mary's daughters, Shelley, Chris and Julie,  together with partners, children, other relatives and friends, have ensured that Mary's memory has remained vivid, and are great supporters of the CCU. They are a tight family unit and some of the strongest, kindest women I know. This race is for you, girls. You inspire me.

So please, give whatever you can afford, and help provide another family with the same relief during an unimaginably difficult time.

Lots of love to you all

Sara
