Story
On Friday June 10th, I will be cycling away from the Olympic Velodrome in London with my husband, David.
We will be cycling 155 miles, arriving at the Ajax Arena in Amsterdam on Saturday afternoon, as part of Prostate Cancer UK's "Football to Amsterdam" ride.
I am riding in memory of my dad, Pat, who we lost to Prostate Cancer in 2018, and to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK, my work (EDF's) Charity Partner, who pioneer research and support everyone affected by the disease, which is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK.
My dad's diagnosis came too late and had awareness been better and testing been more accurate, it may have been caught in time and he could have still been with us today.
If that isn't a good enough reason to commit to this event and the effort before it, consider this:
A startling 1 in 8 people with a prostate will be affected by prostate cancer and if you have a case of it in your family, or are black, this figure becomes 1 in 4.
I am definitely doing my bit (training began on January 1st) and we have a lot to raise to participate in the ride, will be training hard and organising events too, so any help you can give to achieve the target will be genuinely appreciated.
