Story
Last year I became critically unwell whilst at university, and found myself on life support in the local hospital. As I was deteriorating, a decision was made to transfer me over 220 miles to the liver ITU at King’s College Hospital . When I arrived at King’s, my condition was described as ‘life-threatening’ and as I lay in an induced coma nobody knew whether I would survive. My family had to watch me endure multiple treatments to save my life, but after 9 days in a coma, I finally woke up.
My critical illness was a very difficult time for my family and I, but was made much easier by the dedicated staff at the hospital. I cannot described how thankful I am for the people who cared for me. Everyone from the cleaners and porters to the clinical staff are a true credit to the NHS.
Today I am back as a second year child nursing student, which would not have been possible without the incredible people involved in my care. So, this year on 13/12/2020 my friend Verity and I will be running the King's Santa dash (don't worry, this will be COVID safe) as a thank you to the hospital that helped to save my life.
To the people who looked after me- thank you from my family, we will never forget you!
