Story
These unprecedented times, have had wide ranging impacts on
businesses, families and charities. While a number of businesses have managed to adapt and overcome the challenges presented by remote working and social distancing, many of those in the charities sector have tragically lagged behind.
On a recent cycle in the Scottish Highlands I reflected on a call I had with the CEO of Make-A-Wish UK, Jason Suckley. Make-A-Wish is a
vital charity that grants the wishes of critically ill children at the end of
their lives. At such a traumatic period in a child’s life, Make-A-Wish provides comfort to them and their families and the opportunity to feel joy. The charity has seen donations fall 40% in the year to date, making it harder than ever to fulfil the wishes of critically ill children. The sad truth is that one child a week is now missing out on this opportunity.
I want to make a difference. Cycling is a community of waving and smiling sports enthusiasts, desperate to improve their health in a
social way. What I propose is that cycling clubs around the country set aside one ride between now and 1st October for Make-A-Wish and donate £5.
I know that the community I am proud to be a part of will seize this chance to make a difference and climb on their bike soon, saying #ThisOneIsForMAW.
Thank you for your support.
