Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and rural villagers depend on their natural environment for food and housing. Chopping down trees can unintentionally destroy the habitat they depend upon to live. Working with the communities in the Kinja Valley, where JT has rebuilt several schools following the earthquake in 2015, sites have been located to plant 10,000 fruit trees by the autumn of 2021. The saplings, a mixture of Walnut, Pecan, Peach, Plum, Sichuan Pepper, Mandarin and Lapsi, will generate fruit income for up to 10 years as they grow.
2,000 saplings were planted at the end of 2020 and our second order of 4,000 will be ready to plant in May, the final 4,000 in the Autumn.
Thanks to our team of volunteers in Nepal, our budget is just $10,000 to plant 10,000 fruit trees, 80% will cover purchase costs and transportation to the planting sites, 20% will pay for local labour from the communities they will help.
Donate £8 to plant 10 fruit trees or £80 for 100 trees!
