Hospital Appeal (London 2 Portsmouth) Cycling Event

London To Portsmouth 2019 · 27 April 2019 ·
The Hope and Knowledge Cycling Club will take us from London to Portsmouth on an epic 80-mile journey on the 27th April 2019.
Last year I done a similar ride to Margate for the deaf community. Thanks to you all, I raised a staggering £2,597 and £40,229.63 overall was raised for this cause by Hope and Knowledge Cycling Club members.
This year's cause will be raising much needed funds for the Al-Karama hospital in the north of Gaza. The funds will be used to give renewable energy to the hospital by installing solar panels.
I have travelled to that region last year to see the situation there. The movement for the Palestinians are severely restricted. The stories I have personally heard from the locals where heart breaking. I also tried to go to Gaza but no one was willing to take me near the area due to its current dangers. This journey was an eye opener for me and I am hoping that everyone will support me once again to do something great for the people relying on the medical care in Gaza.
Background Information
The Palestinians living in Gaza are considered to be some of the most oppressed people. Their movement is restricted and they have little access to essential resources. Food supply is limited, clean water is hard to access for the majority of the population and healthcare which is in constant demand is affected by a lack of medication, equipment and power cuts.
The solar power project that Hope and knowledge have launched with the help of Islamic Help will support the Al-Karama hospital. This hospital has been supported by Islamic Help in the past with medical supplies. However, one of the urgent needs for the hospital is a constant supply of electricity. Currently, where there is a power cut, the hospital relies on back up generators which are expensive to run and maintain as they run on diesel.
To solve this problem, Islamic Help plans to install solar panels at the Al-Karama hospital. This will provide the hospital with free renewable energy and reduce their dependency on diesel generators which also have a negative impact on the environment. Funds which would have been spent on diesel for the generators can now be spent on improving patient care.
