Imagine growing up without books. No bed time stories. No secret midnight reading because you simply have to find out what happens next. Sadly, many children in our most disadvantaged communities have little or no access to books in the home. Doorstep Library is a community-focused literacy charity dedicated to bringing the magic of books and the joy of reading directly into the homes of children who need our support. 

I ran this event last year (I use the term 'ran' very loosely!). It nearly killed me & I vowed never again. Yet here I am, another year older, but clearly no wiser, signed up to the challenge once more, leading my intrepid team of amazing runners (can you lead from the back?) into battle for this life changing charity.  'Why?', I hear you ask. 'Yes why?', I hear myself ask! Because when a child tells his mum that the Doorstep Library visit is 'the day the magic happens'; when a silent child suddenly tells a volunteer 'I want to read to you today!'; when a parent tells us 'we read a story together for the very first time', I can say 'I helped make that happen'. That's why.
