Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are cycling in support of CPU (Camden Psychotherapy Unit) to raise much-needed funds so it can continue to offer free and low-cost psychotherapy to those most in need. We hope you will donate to this worthy cause.
I work as an honorary psychotherapist for CPU and know (from my experience) the excellent services it provides to its patients. CPU principally offers pro-bono therapy to those who cannot afford to pay, and it gives outstanding training to new generations (including me) of psychotherapists.
Although founded in 1969, with NHS sponsorship, CPU has been self-funding since 2000, relying solely on fundraising efforts like these and donations. It rises to the challenge year after year, which is no mean feat given the size of the organisation and the times we live in and speaks to the recognition of the vital service it offers.
Many of us are affected by mental health care issues - ourselves or in our families. It is part of our common humanity. Some of us are lucky enough to access private help, but for a large and growing number of people this is not possible. Presenting with a variety and often complex needs that are not done away with a prescription drug or short-term intervention, they so far find an open door at CPU through which to walk and where to bring their difficulties and problems, starting a process of discovery and healing. The benefits are far-reaching - improving not just an individual's life, but positively affecting his/her family too.
Ill mental health is the leading cause of disability worldwide (03/18 WHO). It is ever more important that appropriate treatment is available to everyone, independent of their financial means. CPU is one of a few remaining number of organisations in London to offer this ... we do hope you will support us in making sure CPU continues to be a place of hope and healing.
