Story
Sandra Hood completed the legendary London Marathon 2011 for Compassion in World Farming - to help improve the lives of millions of animals suffering in factory farms in the UK and worldwide.
Sandra wants to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has sent such lovely words of support and for your kind donations which have helped her smash her £1,000 target. But there's still time to donate and help her raise £1,000 just through online donations!
Sandra is a vegan, dietician and member of Compassionate Dorset - the local supporter group for Compassion in World Farming.
She completed the marathon in 3 hours 41 minutes and 50 seconds - smashing the time she hoped for. Dorset Echo reported she was one of Dorset's quickest runners!
Sandra says: “I’m absolutely thrilled, I’m just over the moon. It was very hot weather and when I was running round I was thinking of the animals in factory farms shut up and that kept me going. It got to 20 miles and I didn’t look at my watch as it has put me off before and I started to think I can do this in under four hours. I got a second wind. The crowds were so wonderful, they cheered me on."
"I like to keep fit and well and show that a vegan diet can help people to be very healthy. As a vegan, I’d rather no one ate meat at all, but while most people do eat meat, Compassion is the voice of the millions of farm animals that are suffering in factory farms. The charity is brilliant at campaigning for the rights of farm animals and encouraging better farming practises - and that's why I wanted to support them."
Thank You : )
