Story
Last year I lost a wonderfully special friend to depression. I would wax lyrical to him about how much we needed to get fit for the sake of our mental health. He would ridicule my desire for us to join a yoga class, but was quite humoured by my suggestion of a "health picnic" (a walk by the sea, a sandwich, and a dram).
When we lost him, I felt incredibly isolated and struggled with my grief. I was 100 miles from everyone who loved him, and I didn't really know where to channel my pain. I started running (that got old as soon as the rain set in), and then I joined the gym. The gym saved me from my grief and has helped immensely. I wish I'd been able to tell Scott how good it's been for my mental health (I know he would laugh at the idea of me working out too).
This year I really learned how fragile our mental health is, and how important self care and exercise is when trying to preserve it.
2019 is to be the year I am kinder to myself, and practice more self care. I currently work out 2-3 times a week, but will be increasing the this to 7 sessions a week for a minimum of one hour for January, to raise money for MIND charity.
I would be so grateful for any donation to help me smash my target.
