40.3 Miles to Freedom
Campaign by Hope for Justice (RCN 1126097)
There are currently 40.3 million people trapped in slavery world-wide. Yet most people still consider slavery a thing of the past. That's why we're challenging you to walk, run, cycle or swim 40.3 miles to raise awareness and funds to fight slavery

Story

Thank you for supporting my challenge! With your help we are changing the lives of people like Crisitina* Cristina* was trafficked to the UK from Romania by an acquaintance who promised her a good job and a better life. Cristina was made to live in appalling accommodation, asked to have sex with men, and sell drugs. When she refused, Cristina was drugged, physically abused and held captive for several months, while being exploited for sex and criminal activities. Cristina bravely escaped, but found herself homeless all the while experiencing mental health problems. When Cristina reached out to Hope for Justice, they discovered she had reported her exploitation, but her case had slipped through the system. Hope for Justice helped Cristina secure a positive NRM decision, accommodation, food, financial support and counselling and other essentials. Thanks to this intervention, Cristina is now safe, far from her traffickers, and beginning to recover.
