Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page In memory of NIGEL WHITEFIELD. Born 22.8.61 Died 01.03.14.

My lovely husband Nigel and Daddy to Charles and Amy died peacefully in his sleep at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle on Saturday 1 March 2014.

Nigel had a kidney transplant on the 30 December 2013 and was due out of hospital in January and early February but the kidney proved a little troublesome. However the day before his hospital discharge in early February he was diagnosed with Influenza Type A.   On 13 February he was transferred into intensive care and put into an induced sleep on 16 February.

Charles and Amy saw Daddy for the last time on Friday 28 February night. The hospital was great. We explained that Daddy could hear them but he could not speak to them. They chatted, cuddled, kissed Daddy and put on a show of songs and dancing. Nigel would have been proud of the kids that night.... I was. Then after a good night kiss and cuddle, we brought Charles and Amy back home.

At 11.45pm I along with his best friend Conor O'Hagan and my brother Angus and his wife Louise returned to the hospital.  We chatted to Nigel for a while and in the early hours of the morning while his sedation and painkillers remained high, Nigel died peacefully, in no pain and surrounded by loved ones.

Nigel, heroically battled and managed his kidney condition with a sense of humour and a dignified manner and was an example to all.  Charles, Amy and I were and are very proud of him and would like something positive to come out of our tragic loss.

Your kind donations and support would be very welcome.

We would also like to thank everyone for all the cards, emails, Facebook messages we have received at this sad and difficult time.
