Sandra Owen is raising money for Meningitis Research Foundation

My daughter Sarah was diagnosed with meningitis when she was a child and we almost lost her to this awful illness. I will never forget being on the children’s ward at Blackpool Victoria hospital and having to wait outside the room whilst they tried to do a lumbar puncture on her, she was crying as she was in pain. As a parent it was heartbreaking. The doctor came to us and said Sarah had bacterial meningitis.
The nursing staff were so caring and explained everything to us, they got her on an IV drip and pumped antibiotics and painkillers into her, that night was touch and go, the doctor said if we hadn’t brought her into the hospital when we did we probably wouldn’t have had her by the next morning as she was so poorly, so glad we made that decision as we almost had waited until the next day!
Sarah made a full recovery and was back home with us after a week in hospital, she suffered no side effects from this traumatic illness unlike some people who lose their lives or are left with life changing injuries. Sarah has grown into a beautiful caring lady who now has children of her own.
