Story
The first thing I want to make clear to anybody donating is that the money will be split equally between Hospice at Home and Macmillan Cancer Care I did not want to confuse people by having 2 pages.
In November 2008 my husband John was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. He subseqently had 5 months of intense chemotherapy. As with many people faced with a life threatening illness and no income we were in a desperate financial position and Macmillan Cancer Support thankfully helped us out with grants. It had always been our intention once John was fit enough to repay this kindness with some sort of sponsored event.
Sadly having made a full recovery and indeed feeling the best he had for years John relapsed in September 2010 and died in February 2011. Since John died I have been receiving bereavement support from Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland. I have therefore chosen these 2 charities and hope my challenge will in some way repay their kindness at a time when it was and is needed.
Myself and a group of friends are doing the Buttermere Round on Saturday 2nd June 2012, which is a 12.5 mile walk taking in 6000' of ascent and descent on 7 lakeland fells - Red Pike, High Stile, High Crag, Haystacks, Dale Head, Hindscarth, and Robinson. We are being guided on the walk by Geoff Horky of http://www.bigwalks.com/
John was an amazing soul who gave to others for all of his life, he was never without a smile even in the grim days of his treatment. He faced his illness with courage and never saw it as a battle to be lost but as a gift sent in order to learn what he was here to do. He faced death like the brave soul he was and in doing so was an example to us all - he had great faith and knew that death was nothing to fear.
So all that is left for me to ask is that you dig deep and help me reach my target (and hopefully more) and in doing so not only keep the memory of a wonderful man alive but help Hospice at Home and Macmillan Cancer Care to continue all the tremendous work that they do.
Many, many thanks Sandra
