Story
This October we will be participating in a very special but challenging event which will see us trek through the Sahara Desert. The goal of this remarkable journey is to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.
The money we are hoping to raise will go towards research to find new, better treatments for people with heart and circulatory disease, or develop new ways to better prevent or diagnose it.
Some of you might know that both of us have had very close family members affected by heart problems. More recently, Janet’s mother had a heart bypass surgery which was as a result of a routine check-up for her diabetes. They were very fortunate that this was diagnosed at this stage because her heart surgeon said her main artery could have ruptured any day. Similarly, Rebecca also has family affected by heart conditions related to other illnesses. The problem is, many other families go through the same scare and heartache every year.
By participating in this event, we hope to raise awareness of what the British Heart Foundation does and how Mending Broken Hearts can help thousands of families every year by carrying out valuable research.
We hope that you will share this incredible journey with us by supporting us in our fundraising efforts.
In return, we will be raising our own heart beats by following a rigorous training schedule involving lots of running, walking and circuit exercises to prepare our bodies for the 100km trek across the Sahara Desert in temperatures of about 30 degrees Celsius. The trek will last for 10 days and the terrains we will cover will include a stony flat expanse to perfectly windblown sand dunes broken by the occasional oasis.
Thank you for your consideration and support.
Your contribution alone will make a huge difference.
All our best wishes,
Janet and Rebecca
