Story
After being seriously hurt when a car hit me from behind whilst cycling I am endeavouring to run/walk 100km along the Ridgeway with my wonderful friend Fiona. The accident has left me with life changing injuries as I sustained 5 fractured vertebrae in my back, sternum and rib fractures, massive soft tissue injuries, acute kidney injury and a troublesome head injury.
As a competitive triathlete, marathon runner, ultra marathon runner and Ironman I am now adjusting to reduced mobility and what that means to my sport. With the amazing support from my family and friends I have started my recovery and return to some level of fitness. 12 months ago I was training for a 400 mile cycle ride for the EAAAS but the accident has put a halt to attempting that this year along with any triathlon events as I am unable to cycle at the moment.
The RTTS will be a huge undertaking for me and a milestone in that recovery none of which would be possible if I’d not had the incredible help of the ambulance service. So I’m also hoping to give a little bit back please help me to do that.
East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) is a 365-day-a-year helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk & Suffolk. We exist to save lives by delivering highly skilled doctors and critical care paramedics by air to seriously ill or injured people in the region. We do not receive regular direct government funding and the £13 million we need to raise this year comes directly from charitable donations. We are only kept airborne thanks to our incredible supporters. Thank you.
