Story
Our Dad, Satwant Singh Sandhu (Harry) was admitted to Wexham Park Hospital ICU on Monday March 23rd and sadly died on Thursday April 9th 2020. It’s hard for us to believe that his death certificate reads Covid-19 and organ failure as his reasons for death.
Dad was cared for by the dedicated NHS doctors and nurses in the ICU for 17 days. They washed him, cared for him, tested him, gave him medication, looked after him knowing he was fighting Covid and that they too could contract the virus. We cannot thank them enough for everything that they did for dad until the end.
As the nation clapped in support of these NHS angels on Thursday April 9th at 8pm, the nurse at the ICU held our Dad’s hand for us and turned off his ventilator. We were not able to be by Dad’s side at the hospital and could not be with him at the end when he took his last breaths. Throughout this all, we could only visualise sitting by his side and at the most talk to him or pray from home whilst in lockdown.
When we closed our eyes, we could see his hands and that’s all we had on the day he passed. They were working hands, dark in colour, he had a funny shaped little finger and a scar. We wished we could have been by his side to hold his hands as he was going and this will hurt us forever.
Please can you donate money to support the ICU units in Berkshire where Dad lived to help the staff protect themselves and let’s support them through this pandemic. We know that these NHS angels helped Dad while risking their own lives and their families and for that we owe them everything.
Many thanks & keep safe
