Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Having never run a half marathon in my life, or even a full marathon I have decided to set myself a bit of a challenge and have entered the Jurassic Coast Challenge 2010, organised by VOTwo. The challenge involves running 3 marathons in 3 days along the Jurassic coastline of Dorset from Lyme Regis to Sandbanks.
So on Friday 26th March I get up and run a marathon, then stumble to bed. On Saturday, I will wake up in pain and go and run another marathon, then have someone carry me to bed. Finally on Sunday I will wake up in tears and even more pain, before putting on my trainers for the final time and running a third and final marathon.
To make it just a little bit more challenging the route is not following roads like the London marathon. This event will be a mixture of trails, rocky cliff paths, sand, mud, shingle and maybe a small sprinkle of tarmac.
Just to make the event really appealling, it involves a horrifying amount of long and tall hills to go up, and down.
The final 'nail' in my challenge coffin - it is currently January 6th 2010, and I have not even started training. I cant go for a run if I wanted to as I am injured and there is snow everywhere! So not having been for a run for 2 months, giving me around 8 weeks to train. In short I will have around 8 weeks to train, which probably is not enough for one marathon, let alone 3 in 3 days! This really will be a challenge.
I think anyone who has known me over the past 3 or 4 years knows how I like a challenge and a bit of competitive racing. This though is taking it to a level I am not even sure I can do! With your help and support I intend to complete all three marathons, even if it means crawling over each of the three finish lines in the dark. I am optomistic at this stage of being able to cope with the challenge, but having never run a marathon I have no idea how my body will be feeling after 20+ miles. Even if my knees or hips give up, I will keep pushing myself to walk/limp to the finish.
