Story
I read an article on the BBC website relating to the Euan Macdonald Centre's research, and upcoming trials for a potential CURE for Motor Neurone Disease. Up until now there is no effective treatment, let alone a cure, so this development is
HUGE. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-55718363
But this is hugely personal for me too, as my mother has recently been diagnosed with this horrible disease. Therefore this is a selfishly motivated drive, to do do anything I can to help both her and others who are affected by this illness.
To help rally support, I am aiming to swim a 15K stretch of the coastline of the island of Elba (Napoleon's home for a year - complete coincidence...). I am targeting September for the swim, COVID dependant, but please be assured ALL OF YOUR MONEY GOES TO THE CHARITY, not on flights etc...
A bit about Euan Macdonald Centre - and the amazing work they are doing:
Doctors and scientists at the Euan MacDonald Centre undertake vital research into motor neurone disease (MND); a condition that causes muscle weakness and paralysis, difficulty speaking, swallowing and breathing. It is life-shortening and there is currently no effective treatment or cure. Uniting over 200 doctors, scientists and NHS healthcare professionals across Scotland, we aim to improve the lives of people living with MND, and to slow, stop and eventually reverse this devastating condition. Please donate to my JustGiving page today.
