Story
The #WalkforEndo is a campaign by Endometriosis UK, encouraging people to walk 7.5km in solidarity with those waiting, on average, 7.5 years for an endometriosis diagnosis.
I waited double that time, so I'm pledging to walk double that distance (15km) between now and my birthday at the end of September.
For me, it was 15 years between my first doctor visit with symptoms and being diagnosed at 28. At 13 years old I was simply given the contraceptive pill and told to put up with the pain.
I'm doing this challenge to raise money for Endometriosis UK in the hope that more research leads to quicker diagnosis and better treatment of endometriosis patients. I have a two year old daughter, who has an increased risk of having endometriosis simply because I do, and I can't bear the thought of her having to fight as hard as I did to be heard.
To some 15km might not sound like much, but as my symptoms have recently increased this is actually quite daunting. I might not be able to do it in one go, but I'm determined to get it done one way or another between now and my birthday on 24 September.
I'll be sharing my story and progress on my blog, instagram and facebook pages and would love you to follow along.
