On Sunday 12th June 2022, I will take part in an 18-mile trail run (30k) called the Big Sea on the Isle of Purbeck in the UK to raise funds for TackleAfrica, the charity I work for and that uses sport to enable children to take control of their Sexual Reproductive Health. 

By tracking all of my distances during race day and training, I will help TackleAfrica to travel virtually through 25 countries, including all 12 that they work in across Africa, finishing in Durban, South Africa. 

I have been living and working in West Africa for TackleAfrica for the last 5 years so this year I wanted to challenge myself to train in the 40 degrees heat of Burkina. For the last 4 months, I have been using the local stadium with stairs and the roundabout of Martyrs to train a 42k distance. This will be my first trail running event and my first event of this distance.

TackleAfrica uses the power and popularity of football to deliver HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) information and services to young people on football pitches across the continent.We do this by training African football coaches, games teachers and community leaders to use fun, interactive football sessions with inbuilt health messaging with their players. Alongside receiving sexual health information during football sessions, players also have the chance to access sexual health services at sessions and football tournaments, such as HIV testing, condoms and other contraception, and referrals to further clinical services.
