London Marathon 2019 · 28 April 2019 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
2019 is a big year for me; I was 40 years old on the 12th January, so I want to do something memorable to mark this occasion. The birthday gift I would like, more than anything else, is an effective treatment for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, the muscle wasting condition that is hurting my 9-year old son Will. Duchenne is taking the strength from his muscles, reducing his mobility. It will continue to have a an even greater impact on Will's future, and at the moment, there is no treatment available.
So I applied, and have been allocated, a charity place to run the 2019 London Marathon on 28th April, and raise money for Muscular Dystrophy UK. All of the money that I raise will go to MDUK's Duchenne Research Breakthrough Fund, which supports research into potential treatments. No UK Government Money goes into Duchenne Research, it is all funded by charities.
April 2019 will also be the 25th Anniversary of the passing of my Dad, Peter, at the age of 44. My Dad went to school in London, and one of my memories of him is the night before the London Marathon (which we always watched together), he regularly joked that he might just 'pop down' and run it in the morning! This, even though I don't think I ever saw him go for a run!! The Marathon seems like a really cool way to link happy memories of my Dad, and raising money that could help my Will.
This will be my first proper marathon, so please support me in taking on this challenge, and donate if you can. Thank You x
