Story
The Marathon de Sables. April 8-14, 2012. The "toughest foot race on earth". An endurance race of 151 miles (close to 6 marathons) across the Sahara Desert in Morocco in temperatures of up to 50°C (120°F). Why would anyone in their right mind attempt this? http://www.saharamarathon.co.uk/about.html
Part of the answer for me is to raise sponsorship money for Oxfam, a fantastic charity I have supported for many years which works in more than 100 countries to fight poverty through emergency response, development work and campaigning for change. I am paying the full entry cost of the Marathon de Sables myself so all money donated will go direct to charity. So please help Oxfam - and motivate me to keep going - thank you!!
You can read more about my adventure at: http://saminthesahara.blogspot.com/
...including daily posts during the race itself (April 8-14) and how to send good luck messages to get me up and over another day of sand dunes.
But back to my original question....why would anyone in their right mind attempt this race? I suspect the answer is simple: no-one in their right mind would.
Happy running!
Sam
