Story
Welcome to my Just Giving page!
As you may know, the original plan was to run the 2024 TCS London Marathon whilst carrying 40KG of additional weight for Dementia UK in memory of my nan Mary Coffey, who sadly passed away January 3rd 2022.
Rather unexpectedly, we recently lost my Auntie Kath on the 27th March.
She, along with many others, had always thought that this was a very dangerous thing to attempt and with my best interests at heart, strongly advised I do not do this. My Auntie Kath showed nothing but love and support for me running the marathon but ultimately just wanted me to be safe. As does everyone else.
I have trained to run this marathon with the weight. However, all things considered, carrying the weight for the entirety of the marathon doesn't feel like the right thing to do anymore.
My Auntie Kath didn't want this, so I have decided to carry 40kg for the only the last 3 miles. This signifies the last 3 years of my nans life in which she spent living with us in our family home.
I will have the handprint of my Auntie printed onto the back of my vest - 'pushing me along'. That's my way of having her with me on the day.
I am running this marathon in memory of my Auntie Kath and my Nan Mary. Even though there has been some late changes, I hope I haven't let anyone down and make my Nan, Auntie Kath and the rest of my family proud.
Thank you to everyone for the donations and continuous support, this has been a whirlwind of a journey.
Love to you all.
Sam
