We are a 24 hour search & rescue service to save lives at sea

Story

On Sunday 13th December 2009 at 1.30pm, I (and 299 other people) will be taking part in the 17th Ditton Turkey 10k Run (If you win you win a turkey, I'm thinking there will be no turkey for me!)

I have decided that as I am going to run I might as well do it for a reason and I am going to run for the RNLI - The Royal National Lifeboat Institute.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is a charity that saves lives at sea around the coasts of the UK and the Irish Republic, as well as inshore. It was founded on 4 March 1824 as the National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck, adopting the present name in 1854. It now operates as an international service to the peoples of the UK and Ireland and has official charity status in each nation. The RNLI operates over 230 lifeboat stations around the coasts of Great Britain, Ireland, and the Channel Islands. Since 1980, lifeboat rescues have doubled; the RNLI rescues an average of 22 people each day.

The charity also employs lifeguards on beaches in southwest England, south Wales and Norfolk. In 2008, this service was expanded to cover over 100 beaches.[1] The RNLI is funded entirely by voluntary donations and legacies (together with tax reclaims), and has an annual budget of £130 million (€144 million). (Yes, I did copy that from wikipedia, as if I was going to write that all myself!).

So, I would appreciate your support as much as possible, Please spare as much or as little as you can and I will be grateful. You are also welcome to come down and watch/point and laugh on the day if you so wish. And if your hot I might even let you be my personal masseuse after the race. (No not you Lloyd). If you do feel like coming down the address for the start/finish line is:

Ditton Community Centre, Kiln Barn Road, Ditton, Kent, ME20 6AH.

Thanks very much for visiting my page, spread the word and please give as much as you can afford, Don't forget to giftaid your donation too if you are eligible. Below is a few links for related websites.

RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.
