Story

Me and Poppy will be taking part in The Edinburgh Wee Wander kilt walk 2024 to raise some funds for Nurture The Borders, a fantastic service that I have used both pre and post birth.

Sadly before Poppy, I experienced two misscarraiges. My pregnancy with Poppy was a rollercoaster of emotions. I was incredibly grateful to be pregnant and excited to meet my baby I had so longed for, but I was also terrified that history would repeat itself, which is something nobody should ever have to experience. It is certainly up there in the cruellest life events I have endured. I was also extremely anxious as to how my Functional neurological disorder condition would respond to being pregnant and giving birth. I had managed to gain some form of slight remission in symptoms, but with pain and trauma being a trigger... the odds were not looking great.

Anxiety around this all took over and this is where I was made aware of Nurture the Borders and all that they could offer. I wanted the best Start in life for my baby and wanted to take back the control and enjoy the journey so I self-referred online. With Nurture the borders I received 1:1 support sessions, antenatal classes, creative journalling support group and now attend mum and baby groups there.

Using all the skills learnt through NTB, I went on to have a vaginal birth with minimal intervention, my FND symptoms remained fairly level and most importantly my baby was safe and healthy.

I now meet regularly with other mums at baby groups facilitated at NTB. This gives me the chance to Get out the house, sit with other mums and babies, a chance for a hot cuppa, a chat, asking and sharing advice and suggestions, all whilst socialising Poppy.

The Nurture team are the most caring, kind and empathetic bunch and I will forever be grateful for such a fantastic service which I highly recommend to anyone who will listen.

Poppy is thriving and I LOVE being a mum.

Please Help me to raise some funds to keep their service up and running. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. I want to ensure that other mums/mums to be get the same support opportunities as I did.

🙏 ❤️
