Story
Welcome to my TCS London Marathon #TeamHDA fundraising page. I will be taking part in the 2024 TCS London Marathon to help us support people living with Huntington's disease in England and Wales.
Many of you will know that my mum was diagnosed with Huntington's disease in April 2011, this was a complete shock as we did not know this hereditary disease was in the family. Huntington's is a mix of MND, Parkinsons, Dementia all rolled into one! It is degenerative disease where you gradually lose your ability to talk, walk and eat. There is no cure.
My mum battled with the disease for 12 years, until we finally lost her on 5 April 2023. She was one very brave lady and we are all proud of her.
I will be running in memory of my mum which will mark the anniversary of my mums passing; and support all the other families affected by this cruel disease.
I have been honoured to secure a place running on behalf of Huntington's Disease Association.
Today 13 July 2023 would have been my mum and dads 55th wedding anniversary.
This is a rare condition, for which there is currently no cure. It destroys and divides family because of the 50/50 chance of children of a parent with the Huntington gene inheriting the gene. If you have the gene you will develop symptoms at some point in your life.
HDA provides valuable support to families living with this condition.
Please dig deep and help find a cure for this condition.
I will be donating £1 for each and every training mile I run between 1 September and 21 April 2024.
I have an individual who has kindly offered to match each £1 I raise - this will make a huge difference to this charity.
Many thanks for reading my page.
