Jack's Story
Please help me to raise as much money as we can for the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR)
My name is Samantha Wearne and I am from Truro, Cornwall, UK. I can tell you that I was your average lady in every way; juggling a home, a family and a job, and this is what makes our story more terrifying; that our world could be destroyed so suddenly and frighteningly. It really has opened my eyes to how vulnerable we all are to being physically or emotionally hurt from life changing circumstances beyond our control.
On 17th September 2008, my youngest son, Jack, aged 8, was diagnosed with Diffuse Pontine Glioma, which is an incurable brain stem tumour. After the doctors examined him and reviewed his MRI, we received the worst news of our lives. The tumour was INOPERABLE and INCURABLE.
Jack fought his battle so bravely for 11 months.
Jack died (aged nine) on Monday 31st August 2009, as I held him in my arms. No matter how much time passes, I still miss him and love him more than ever.
This year another 40 children in the UK will be diagnosed with an incurable brain stem tumour.
In the time it takes you to read this another family may have their child diagnosed with this terrible devastating disease.
Loosing Jack was the worst experience of my life. How many people have considered what it is like to lose a child? I didn't think it could happen to me.
We support a small scientific team within the Institute of Cancer Research at the Royal Marsden Hospital whose focus is to find treatment and a cure for Diffuse Pontine Glioma (incurable brain tumours in children). All of your donations will go directly to researching a cure for Diffuse Pontine Glioma.
Thank you for your support, it really does mean the world to me and my family.
