The Mental Health Foundation is the UK’s charity for everyone’s mental health.With prevention at the heart of what they do, the Mental Health Foundation aim to find and address the sources of mental health problems so that people and communities can thrive.

My dad walked this walk with his parents and sister when he was little and has always wanted to walk in their foot steps with me. The pandemic has been tough on us all, I have been very fortunate to remain in employment throughout the entire pandemic but it’s been really difficult to remain positive at all of those times. For those of who do not already know I work as a seafarer. Onboard I am not just responsible for myself but the well-being of my crew too, our contracts were extended and we faced longer periods of time onboard without an end date insight. We were drawn closer together to ensure that each of us stayed strong during this time.

I would walk out of my cabin every morning with a big smile on my face to ensure that the next person I met felt the same way. Smiles are infectious. I organised activities for my crew like master chef and murder mystery and quizzes to keep their minds occupied during these unforeseen circumstances. 

Each crew have a different mindset of the situation and some deal with it differently than others and I want to encourage a safe place to talk about Mental Health to allow others to talk without judgement. 

This message I have become enthusiastic about and with likeminded individuals I will not give up until Mental Health is discussed just like a cough or a cold. It’s as easy to talk about it like brushing your teeth in the morning.
