Story
So here we go with an update. Firstly thanks for all of your support and sponsorship for the great cause of "SHOUT AT CANCER"!! I am still overwhelmed by the donations and have had many calls from the charity manager expressing huge gratitude to you all. As a starting charity they need as much publicity and help as possible.
Annoyingly - 2 weeks before Christmas I got sick with an infection and was off sick for a week and took two further weeks to recover. I tried to get back on the training plan but have found it harder than ever due to the weather and fatigue. I know what your going to say........moan moan moan!! RIGHT?! Excuses abundant I have still tried when my body permits.
HOWEVER!!! I am self assessing myself as not being fit enough to complete the run in the allotted 3 hours allowed. I know this as I know my body and how hard I have found the weeks after Christmas.
Therefore.....
1. I am going to start the run with the rest of my long suffering and mega helpful team mates and let them get on with what they do best! Thank you guys for your support and for putting up with my Paula Radcliffe moments š¬. I am going to use this as a marker and training session and if I can finish it either run walk or crawl I will.
2. As I am under no illusion of my current ability to do this (it's 70/30 against at the moment) I have signed up and paid for another run on April 3rd in Richmond. This time alone as I fear my colleagues may kill me if I rope them into my back up plan. I aim to complete this run by hook or crook and will continue to raise as much as I can for the great charity mentioned.
I thought it only fair to update all of you as you have all been so kind. Thanks so far everyone. Your helping some amazing people!!!
So. Wish us luck on the 7th for Watford and I will update you as soon as I can after the race.
Please still support if you can as my colleagues I know are going to finish the race and be in the pub by the time I am at the half way mark. Some of these lovable idiots do this for fun every few weeks!! You know who you are!
So until the 8th of Feb. Take care and send your prayers and good wishes!! Sam and the team xx.
Embarrassing photos to follow. X
Original post
Two years ago mine and my families life changed forever. My youngest brother aged only 33 was diagnosed with throat cancer.... He passed away only 6 weeks later.
The irony of it starting as throat cancer was that he was a performer (singing/opera/drama/musician) and sang all the time, in every day life and for a living.
He was also a much loved drama teacher at a great London college and inspired and encouraged so many to do great things as well as making his pupils believe they could achieve anything whilst building their confidence for life.
"Shout at cancer" seems like an obvious choice for a donation in his memory.
Our lives have changed so much as we miss him every single day, the worst days are when for a moment you forget he is gone and go to call or text him and you suddenly remember he is not there - it's like a punch in the gut.
I have never ran before......well I have for a bus. I am determined to do this for Nick and all those who are fighting against this shitty disease every day.
Please Note: If for any reason I am advised medically to cancel this challenge - (as I have fibromyalgia flare ups) - I will provide evidence of such - but all proceeds will still go to the charity.
