Story
On Sunday 25th July 2021 Samantha & Louise will be walking the South West Coast 2 Coast 50km in one day walking challenge for the MS Society. In Preparation we are walking parts of the South West Coast Path around the beautiful Helford River, Falmouth, St Mawes, The Roseland and The Bissoe Mining Trail.
In 2013 Samantha's niece Naomi, who was 23 years old at the time, had been out for the day with her family on the beach. A few days later she noticed her eye was irritated by what she could only describe as maybe a bit of sand stuck on her eyeball.
Having had many visits to doctors, hospitals, consultants and one morning waking up blind in her left eye, she was diagnosed with Optic Neuritis. Optic Neuritis is a condition which is a common symptom of MS AFTER diagnosis. A CT scan showed no signs of MS it was merely noted as a possible genetic problem.
The following years ahead Naomi's physical and mental health suffered and spiralled. It was as though her body and mind was telling her something was seriously wrong. No amount of tests, consultants or organisations could diagnose what was causing these symptoms - it seemed it was all in her head and for a long time she kept quiet about other symptoms which had developed over time.
Thankfully, her new GP and Naomi decided enough was enough and another CT scan was requested. This confirmed, along with another ELEVEN symptoms, Naomi was and had been for many years showing signs of MS. All the boxes were ticked and finally a diagnosis of Relapsing Remitting MS was made. 🧡
