Story
The Macmillan Charity Raceday is the oldest and largest event of its kind in the country. In 2021 we celebrated our 50th anniversary and are very proud to have raised over £9 million for people living with cancer during that time. Held every June, the highlight of our activities is The Ernest Cooper Macmillan Ride of Their Lives race that sees 12 amateur jockeys ride down the famous Knavesmire course. Each year 25,000 spectators enjoy a day with us and cheer these brave riders on as they take on the challenge of their lifetime.

This year I have decided to take on the challenge, after losing my Grandad to cancer in November, and seeing how Macmillan helped and comforted my Nan after his diagnosis and throughout the journey. Having seen first-hand the impact of their work, I am excited by the opportunity to raise money, which would allow them to help others in the same way that they helped my family.
Although I have ridden racehorses on and off since I was 16, and grown up around them, I am very much still an amateur. My fitness definitely needs improvement, so it will certainly be a challenge. York is my favourite track, having visited every year since I was a child, and worked in the weighing room last season. Riding around the Knavesmire will be an amazing experience, especially as Grandad was a regular at the races- it was his favourite place to be.
Any help will make a big difference towards reaching my target and will be hugely appreciated by myself and Macmillan!
