Story
Our lives changed on the 2nd December 2014.
Our son, Josh (10 at the time) was seriously injured after being crushed between 2 cars on Travistock street, Bedford.
The accident left Josh with multiple broken bones in both legs and skin tissue unrepairable.
At the sence, there was a emergency care practitioner and a senior paramedic who arrived in 5 minutes and then shortly followed by the Magpas specialist team as Josh was injured so much and in a critical state. After making sure Josh was pain free to move him, they got him into the ambulance and took him straight to Addenbrooks.
Josh was in Addenbrooks hospital for 2 months and still has appointments/operations to this day.
Josh has had to undergo a number of operations to fix his left Femur and right Tibia & Fibula. Doctors had to clean and remove any damage parts of his legs, with so much tissue damage to the right leg, the doctors had to use a skin flap from his left leg and replace it on the right leg, they also had to used a muscle from one of his calf's to cover where the tissue should of been. Still to this day, Josh's leg still looks deformed. After so much blood loss, Josh had to have 2 blood transfusions. To help the bones fuse back together, Josh had an external metal Frame to his right leg and metal pins in the left. At one point there was a possibility his leg wouldn't be able to be fixed and would have to be removed.
Through the first year, Josh had to go physio 2/3 times a week where he had to learn to walk again and counselling once a week, as josh was very scared and worried.
Josh has been through so much and still is today. This as been a nightmare for all of us as a family but Josh is doing brilliantly, he is even back on his quad bike!! We can't thank the doctors and nurses at Addenbrooks and plus Magpas air ambulance staff for looking after Josh when he needed them the most.
On the 2nd September we will be doing a sponsored walk for Magpas from where the accident was, Travistock Street, Bedford to Addenbrooks Hospital. Magpas are a charity run operation and receive no government funding, without charity fundraisers they simply couldn't operate & attend people in need, just like Josh.
Each mission costs at least £2,500 and many of the crews are dispatched twice daily to save lives.
We would love you all to sponsor us by donate to such a fantastic cause.
