We fund research into type 1 diabetes to find a cure for type 1 diabetes

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

JDRF is the world's leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research; funding research to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes. They aim to create a world without type 1 diabetes, but until then, they continue to research the best technologies for those trying to manage type 1 diabetes 24/7/365.

Millie is running 1 mile a day for 100 days, each day representing one year since insulin was first administered back in 1922, for her sister and all the other families that live with type 1. We are hoping that Lola will join us on her bike for some of these runs!! Her finish date of May 21st will mark Lola's 4 year anniversary of her diagnosis.

Lola was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 20 months old.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition. For reasons we don’t yet fully understand, her immune system – which is meant to protect her from viruses and bacteria – attacked and destroyed the insulin-producing cells in her pancreas, called beta cells. Currently, this means a lifetime of injections and constant monitoring to keep Lola within a safe range. This condition affects 400,000 people in the UK, with over 29,000 of them children.
