Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
It's been a tough couple of years for everyone, we've all suffered physically, emotionally, socially and societally. For us, our mental health has been stretched and challenged more than ever. Along our journey, we have lost too many people, some way before their time.
So with the old cliché of life's too short, we have decided to embark on an adventure. Challenging ourselves physically and mentally to a hike along a stretch of the south west coast path with our dog Torvi, camping every night along the way.
The date we commence this Journey will be the 27th May, 3 years since Sam lost her Dad to cancer. The hike will take us around 7 days to cover 80 miles of North Cornwall's dynamic coastline.
A big driving force/motivation for Sam to undertake this challenge is loosing Anna, a close friend who was cruelly taken 7 months ago, way before her time. We think about the impact of bereavement on those who dearly loved her and how important it is to share our pain, to support others and to be supported in our grief.
For Max, it is the loss of his old school friend Lawrence, who took his own life at the beginning of April this year. A shocking and tragic loss that makes us think about the challenges men face in talking about how they feel in our society today, which way too often leads them feeling as if they have nowhere else to turn.
So whilst in a pub in Bristol, drinking a beer in memory of Lawrence. We noticed that the beer was supporting a local mens mental health charity called talk club, who offer safe spaces for men to talk and support one another, with the aim to prevent male suicides. This couldn't be more fitting. We are doing this walk in memory of all of those we've loved and lost and ultimately to raise awareness and funds for a fantastic charity who are working hard to change the stigma around mens mental health, offering a safe platform to listen to others and to be heard.
