I got involved with Upbeat in 2017. I was blown away by the way this organisation built genuine community with those who had fled war and persecution.

Through house visits, community meals, activities and more, Upbeat offers those seeking sanctuary a place to call home. It's a place where everyone is welcome, a place to meet others and fill the day with fun things to do.

There are also opportunities for people to grow in skills and confidence, with everything from English classes to employment mentoring.

There's practical support for asylum seekers and refugees who have been made destitute and don't have anywhere to stay, with our hosting scheme providing temporary accommodation and a chance for people to get their lives back on track.

That's not to mention the baby showers, the creative sessions and (coming later in 2019) the refugee family support. 

At the end of the day, it's about the people we have the honour of meeting. This is what one of them had to say:
