Story
If you have got this far you are interesting in sponsoring my 1000 mile challenge. Thank You!
My aim is to run 1000 miles during 2019. To save you the maths that
is about 20 miles a week. To mix it up a bit I will also be doing a few
challenge runs along the way. On March 23rd I will be doing the Maverick inov-8 Original trail half marathon in the Chiltern Hills. A
hilly, muddy little number!
In October I am doing a "Super Sparatan" which is around 16km of run,
obstacles, mud, climbing, atlas stone carrying and fire.
While I have done some runs in my time I wouldn't describe myself as a
runner so for me the weekly push to fit it all in along with the
normal family and work pressures will be a real challenge.
So why am I doing it? Well a few years ago a colleague at work, Alex Phillips, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. At the time I did a fund raising run which initially got me back into trail running and helped me find a love of obstacle races along the way. Despite battling all the way through late last year Alex lost his fight. He was about my age with children about the same age as mine. He had a love of sport (where we worked together) and despite his condition maintained a positive outlook to the last. He battled on a daily basis over a number of years so building on the trail running bug he rekindled in me it seemed appropriate to do something in that vein to help raise some funds to help give something back.
