Story
On October the 16th I'll be competing in the Mallorca Ironman: a triathlon comprising of a 3.8km sea swim, a 180km bike ride climbing over 2000m through the mountains and hills of Mallorca, and a 42.2km marathon through the streets of Port d'Alcudia in order to raise money for The Listening Place.
Every day 18 people in the UK take their own life. And suicide in the UK is increasing, with deaths by suicide rising by almost 12% in 2018, a 16 year high. Despite this, effective, ongoing suicide support is hard to find. The Listening Place meets this need through free, face-to-face, non-judgemental, confidential suicide support. Support is delivered by highly-trained volunteers and continues for as long as someone needs. We have a long-term plan to expand across London and eventually offer support to every suicidal person in the capital.
Not only is this an incredibly worthwhile charity, but it's also one where my amazing sister is volunteering as a counsellor. I'm so proud of her and hope to rasie funds so that she, and others like her, can continue to do such worthwhile work.
Thank you so much for anything you feel that you can give.
Sam
