Story
So, if you weren’t aware I am swimming the English Channel in a butterfly relay within the next few days. Even just writing that down seems completely ridiculous and so totally abstract that I cannot get my head around it, let alone accept that I am in fact one of a team of six people doing it, for the first time ever. But it turns out that it’s happening; and soon.
I had not planned on doing any funding raising per se, but very recently someone who I have known almost my entire life has been diagnosed with Myelofibrosis; a form of myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN).
What the heck is that? I hear you say.
Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) are a group of rare conditions related to leukaemia. Myelofibrosis is caused by an abnormality in the cells that make platelets, which clot the blood and form scars within the bone marrow, causing the bone marrow over time to be rendered useless.
Every 20 minutes, someone in the UK is told they have a blood cancer such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma. That is approximately 30,000 people a year. The likelihood is that during your lifetime you are going to know at least one of those people. This charity not only support the individuals and families whom are affected, but are researching to provide better treatments and aiming to eliminate these conditions. With this in mind I want to raise some funds for the charity Leukaemia and Lymphoma research: https://leukaemialymphomaresearch.org.uk
If you feel so inclined pleased donate; every little bit helps.
